My history narrates the passage from a greek-byzantine rite to a Latin rite in the small town of Scorrano.
The arrival of the Friars Minor of the convent in the 15th century was desired by the feudatory, Raimondina Centelles, subordinate to the Principality of Taranto, related to the Orsini Del Balzo Family which was the most powerful family in the kingdom of Naples.
The intention of the Orsini Del Balzo Family, was to reduce the influence of the Greek clergy in Terre d’Otranto by favouring the settlement of Franciscan convents on their territory especially after the establishment of the Basilica of Saint Catherine of Alessandria and the enclosed convent of Galatina.
The construction of the first settlement probably occurred in 1464, in a locality near Malvicina, where a church dedicated to Saint Salvatore already existed. A 17th century source narrates of how at that time I was incorporated and fortified into the town walls that were expanding in an ellipse form towards me.
Instead the second architectural draft still has the structure of a four-sided portico, dated 1552 and a doorway that connects it to the church.
