In ancient times, the countryside of Montesano was mostly covered with vineyards, symbol of a rural society and of an economy that once flourished but is now marginal.
In the small town, nostalgic references to old times such as “de la vigna a menzu ‘a chiazza” (the vineyard in the middle of the square) as a past time whose memory is hazy in the minds of older people.
I am public property since 2005, thanks to the municipal administration who has initiated a radical restructuring of the room, thus preserving the example of an important archaeology proto-industry of the territory.
In the past I belonged to the Bitonti Family (the stone arch that is crossed coming from IV Novembre square is part of the structure of the adjacent noble palace).
Used until the late sixties, grapes coming from the property of the family were pressed in my tanks, and if necessary I could also be used by the peasants of the area.
