I was founded at the beginning of the 20th century, as a building for the exhibition of furniture and factory belonging to the Piccinno brothers. I was a cabinet-making factory, very renowned in those years, my furniture productions were very elegant and sophisticated, but most important, artisan made thanks to the experienced hands of the Piccinno cabinet-makers. The artefacts made inside the factory were sent to European capitals and to the great American continent, highly valued for the inlay work and the fine quality of wood used.
Unfortunately, in 1863, a heavy fire that was probably intentional destroyed that magnificent heritage, and marked a slow decline downhill that ended with my closure. I was closed for years, until my transformation into an “Agency for Tobacco Farmers–Subsidiary Stock House in 1995.
Fortunately, in 2004, the City Council management came to a resolution of establishing a Museum of Industrial Heritage, inside me, with the intention of bringing back to light beautiful memories: the industrial equipment, elegant picture memoirs of workers and the gratitude shown by the town of Maglie.
Therefore, every time you’ll cross my door, you’ll get the sensation of “feeling” the passion of the ancient workshops craftsmen and the scent of wood used for the fabulous works of art
